Northgate and Compsoft Deliver Health Solutions

Leading application specialists and IT consultancy Northgate Information Solutions has recently completed a project with Compsoft’s .NET specialists to develop a national web-based solution. Northgate, a market leader in the public sector, provides software applications and outsourcing solutions across public safety, local government, education and human resourcing sectors.

The requirement was to build an application for local medical practices that provides comparative information about local commissioning activity and healthcare outcomes for patients. This application is now accessed by 8,500 GP practices and proving to be a valuable tool in supporting practice-based commissioning activity within the NHS.

Microsoft’s .NET technology was used in the construction of this application but, to finish the full scope project on time, Northgate required some additional guidance. Compsoft’s .NET Consultants were contracted to deliver expertise and technical development to assist with the tight deadlines imposed.

Two products resulted. The first, NHS Comparators, is accessible to all GP practices, Primary Care Trusts, and Strategic Health Authorities in England, supporting assessment of performance against key criteria, which are then compared with similar organisations, locally and nationally, in a visually coherent way. The second application, i4Health Online, works as an extension of the first. To show the paths of patient referrals in the best possible format, i4 feeds data to Google Maps and a geographical route is illustrated.

Northgate has had great success with i4 as a prototype, demonstrating its capabilities to various trusts and practices and will soon be looking to market the fully functional product.
