DotNetNuke is an open source tool that facilitates the creation of content management systems. For use as an intranet, DotNetNuke is highly customisable, giving your business only the functionality needed.
As specialists in Microsoft ASP.NET, Compsoft was approached by a client to provide a Content Management System to support a number of corporate sites for a multinational civil engineering company. Upon investigating a number of open source systems, the choice became limited when applying our criteria:
DotNetNuke was selected as a tool as it uses .NET Framework, has a network for support, and has a neat method of adding bespoke modules.
The project included the redevelopment of some of the standard controls and the addition of some bespoke modules:
- Extended navigation controls include layout support for horizontal and vertical orientations, configurable tree level support, show/hide hidden items and highlight active page.
- News List dynamically creates a summary list based on the content of child pages
- Next and previous controls to enable easier navigation of pages
- Modifications to the standard DotNetNuke search results
- A Site Map function that dynamically creates a structure of all pages in the site
- The standard 'undo' function was extended to support article rollback
