Institute of Certified Bookkeepers
The Institute of Certified Bookkeepers has been appointed by HM Treasury as a supervisory body of bookkeepers, monitoring training to certification and providing ongoing support to its members. This activity includes managing the registration of its members, orchestrating the accreditation of bookkeepers and providing a service in support of bookkeepers.
James Carter, the Institute’s Director of IT, called on Compsoft when the organisation was facing usability issues with the existing website; it was written in PHP and had a few inconvenient bugs and the interactivity with an Access database didn’t meet all of the business’s needs. Something new was required, something more reliable and more robust. As a developer James knew that rewriting the site using the .Net framework with a SQL database would provide a website that would meet the business needs now and be something that he would be able to continue developing in to the future, supporting the organisation’s geographic expansion and evolving service. Confident he could undertake some of the development, James needed a partner to support him:
“Our project with Compsoft involved two elements one being a new website, the other training and the development of a new database to work with the new website.
“The first and main point that I liked about Compsoft was the flexibility to have a completely bespoke system designed for our needs. Secondly being the ability to go to their offices and work with them in a training scenario to help me design and implement the new database. The third is that their office is like a family, close friends and easy to get on with. Very open and easy to contact and ask questions.
“We required a website CMS (Content Management System) that we could use across many domains, each domain bringing up different content. It needed to be fast as we are anticipating around 15,000 visitors per week with some intensive database calls. Compsoft was very good at recommending the technology based on similar previous projects and the feedback they have had.
“We are not a huge company in terms of IT, so as the only IT man, being able to join the Compsoft team and work with them has really helped. The 1 to 1 training has been invaluable to us.
“Compsoft offers the complete package with .Net applications, from websites, to databases, to server set up. So to have one contact for all our business requirements has been great and I will most definitely continue to use them for future products and support.”
